Narration Models: How to Switch + What Each Model Is Best At

Friends & Fables lets you choose which narration model Franz uses for campaign responses. Different models trade off speed, cost, and output quality

How to switch models

  1. In a campaign, click the current model name in the bottom bar (near the Continue/Send controls)

  2. Pick a model under Standard Models or Premium Models

  3. Your next Franz message will use that model

Model guide (what to use and when)

Fenix (Standard)

  • Best all-around choice for most campaigns (strong instruction following, solid narrative consistency)

  • Great when you want quality without spending credits on premium narration

MiMo (Standard)

  • Best when you want faster turns or a slightly different narration style while staying close to Fenix-level intelligence

  • Good for quick pacing, travel, and everyday scene flow

Note: Finch is no longer available.

GLM 4.7 (Premium — 2 credits/turn)

  • Best “middle step” when you want a boost over Fenix without paying top-tier premium costs

Gemini 3 Pro (Premium — 6 credits/turn)

  • Best for your biggest moments: complex scenes, heavy context, difficult prompts, and high-stakes dialogue

  • Slower than the other options—use it when quality matters more than speed

Important note: what model switching changes

Changing the narration model changes Franz’s narration output (writing quality, instruction following, and general reasoning), but it does not change things like combat mechanics or the research step.
