To start an encounter, you’ll first want to get to a point in the story where an encounter makes sense narratively. You’ll want to be in a situation where the GM should ask you to roll initiative.
Some examples include:
Get in an argument with an NPC
Failing a stealth check while sneaking about some guards
Drunkenly stumbling through a goblin encampment
An encounter begins once you roll initiative.
Rolling Initiative
In a multiplayer game, only one person needs to roll initiative.
You’ll know you are in the encounter mode when your screen looks like this:
Initiative will be automatically rolled for all parties in combat. Your other party members will not need to press the button.
Manually Triggering Initiative
You can also click the Dice icon next to the chat input to open the roll menu. Inside of this menu, you can click to roll Initiative, which will start an encounter!
What can you fight?
Monsters that have been planted in the world
Monsters that Franz generated on the fly
NPCs that have been planted on the world
NPCs that have been generated on the fly
What can’t you fight?
NPCs that are in your party. If an NPC is in your party, they will be automatically assigned to your side if they are determined to be in combat.
